Colorado Springs - April '25 - Friday & Saturday

return to Wednesday & Thursday

On Friday I slept in again. After a few Keurig coffees and a simple breakfast in the room I drove to Doris' house around 11 am, and Theresa and I then drove into town, taking scenic Nevada Avenue.

Our first stop was the Fine Arts Museum, where we both enjoyed seeing the Southwest collection. I came back the next day to take photos of the Art Deco building; museum photos are here.

Then we headed into center city to look for a coffee shop. I was glad to see that downtown Colorado Springs remains a small, sleepy place, and continues to benefit from the proximity of Colorado College. There are plenty of restaurants and shops to visit, and Poor Richard's Bookstore is one block away.

That night the group dined at Mary & Roger's, with their signature BBQ'd chicken & ribs, plus salad stuff on tap. Again we had a good time talking and delayed group photos until Saturday evening.  (note - Pat flew home to Austin early today.)

All photos above were taken at appetizer time, well before the grand food fest.

On Saturday five of us met close to downtown for a morning stroll along Monument Creek, parking near the old Van Briggle  Pottery works.

Continuous improvements have been made along this creek over the last few decades (when I've been coming here) and the outcome is a 'showcase' walking/jogging/biking trail. As a civil engineer, I liked seeing flood relief passageways & hydraulic barriers, like gabions, to mitigate occasional floodwater, all worked into an interesting riparian landscape.

On the walk out & back I enjoyed talking with Chris for an hour or so.

On Saturday evening the fam drove a little north to Monument, to watch Chris and Tom perform at a restaurant/sports bar. There was a very personable waitress/bartender working the place, which had a good menu.

They played for a few hours, both solo and together.

For all of us it was a good night out, and a skilled camera person took group photos of us.
