The third hike began at the car park near Elwell Lodge

After some fairly steady uphill walking, amidst granite outcroppings & sparse but huge trees, we came to beautiful Long Lake, which we had briefly seen yesterday. We walked alongside the lake for some time.

Upon reaching the miniscule dam at the north end of the lake, a powerful wind was blowing, bouncing off the water & into our faces. As we crossed the tiny dam, my clothes were trying to escape, and I saw 6 inch waves on the lake, coming right at us !

John missed today's hike due to residual soreness in his right leg, from yesterday's challenging walk, so only three of us were out on the trail.

note - my thanks to Jean & Kathy for being willing photo-subjects.

We estimated the loop walk to be 4.5 miles with at least a few hundred feet of gain.

After the third walk, Jean & I headed for Sacto. while Kathy & John stayed one more night at the cabin & had leftovers for dinner.

Postscript - Just being in a pine forest for a few days & nights was refreshing. Clean mountain air & the quietness that descends after dark are worth the price of admission !

The Graeagle Meadows cabins were modern & affordable, with beautiful landscaping all around.

We all enjoyed the hikes and the great lake scenery.
